You can prepare for a window replacement by clearing the pathways around your windows, removing all window treatments, protecting your furniture with drop cloths, and ensuring that our EcoTech installation team has a clear space to work both inside and outside your home.
Taking the leap into home improvement is exciting, but we know that having an installation crew at your house can feel a bit overwhelming if you aren’t prepared. The good news is that at EcoTech Windows & Doors, we’ve streamlined our process to be as non-intrusive as possible. Most of our installations across Ontario are completed in just one to three days. By taking a few simple steps before our factory-trained team arrives, you ensure the job goes faster, stays cleaner, and results in a perfect, airtight fit for your new energy-efficient windows.
The goal of interior prep is to create a safe “work zone” around every window opening. Our installers need enough room to maneuver the new, heavy custom-built units and use their tools without risk of bumping into your personal belongings. A little bit of prep goes a long way in protecting your home’s interior and ensuring our team can focus entirely on the precision of the installation.
Move any furniture, like sofas, desks, or tables, at least three to five feet away from the window area.
Take down pictures, mirrors, or wall decor near the window to prevent them from falling due to minor vibrations during the removal of the old frames.
Ensure there is a clear, unobstructed path from your front or back door to each window being replaced.
Remove all blinds, curtains, valances, and shutters before the crew arrives.
Take out any hardware, such as curtain rods or brackets, that might interfere with the installation of the new trim.
Cover nearby furniture and electronics with old sheets or plastic drop cloths to protect them from the fine dust that naturally occurs during construction.
Disable any security sensors or alarms that are currently attached to your old window frames.
| Category | Action Item | Purpose |
| Workspace | Move furniture (sofas, desks, tables) 3–5 feet back. | Provides room for installers to maneuver heavy units and tools. |
| Wall Decor | Remove pictures, mirrors, and nearby decorations. | Prevents items from falling due to vibrations during frame removal. |
| Treatments | Take down blinds, curtains, shutters, and brackets. | Clears the path for the new window and ensures clean trim installation. |

Our installers spend a significant amount of time outside your home to ensure the exterior caulking and capping are perfectly sealed against the Ontario elements. Just like the inside, the outside of your home needs to be accessible so our team can set up ladders and work safely. Proper exterior prep also ensures that your landscaping stays protected while we modernize your home’s curb appeal.
Trim back any low-hanging tree branches or overgrown bushes that are blocking the windows.
Move patio furniture, potted plants, or garden decorations away from the exterior walls where work will be performed.
If you have a locked gate or a specific area where we should park our service vehicles, please let our team know in advance.
Keep pets in a secure, quiet room or an area of the yard away from the construction to prevent them from getting spooked or accidentally escaping.
If you have small children, ensure they are aware of the work zones and stay clear of the ladders and tools.
Make sure there is an accessible outdoor power outlet for our tools, or let us know if we need to use an interior one.
While not always necessary, having access to an outdoor tap can be helpful for minor cleanups.
| Category | Action Item | Purpose |
| Accessibility | Trim low-hanging branches and overgrown bushes. | Ensures a clear view and safe ladder placement for the team. |
| Clearance | Move patio furniture, potted plants, and garden decor. | Protects your landscaping and creates a stable exterior work zone. |

| Utilities | Identify a functional outdoor power outlet and water tap. | Powers our precision tools and allows for a thorough final cleanup. |

Start by clearing a workspace around each window and removing your curtains or blinds. Protecting your furniture with covers and ensuring the installers have a clear path both inside and outside your home is the best way to ensure the process is quick and stress-free.
We generally recommend that a homeowner or a trusted adult be present at the start of the job to walk through the project with our lead installer. Once the team is settled and the work is underway, you don’t necessarily need to hover, though you should be reachable in case any unexpected structural issues are discovered behind your old frames.
While we strive to be as clean as possible, window replacement is a construction project. There will be some dust and small debris. However, our EcoTech teams use drop cloths and perform a thorough cleanup of the work area before we leave, including removing and disposing of your old windows for you.
In Ontario, we are used to the weather! We can install in most conditions, including light rain or winter cold. However, if there are extreme winds or heavy blizzards that compromise safety or the integrity of the sealants, we will contact you to reschedule for the next available clear day.
There’s no need to wash your old windows since they are going to be removed and recycled. Your new custom windows from EcoTech will arrive clean and ready to shine, though you might want to give them a quick polish once the installation and caulking are fully cured to remove any fingerprints from the install!
We get it – replacing windows and doors is a big project. Worried about costs, the hassle of installation or if our windows will stand the test of time?
